WEEK SIX, DAY 5: LIFE SAVING LOVE-HANDLES?

This woman in Florida was shot by a bullet and her 'love handles'- the excess fat around her middle, saved her life. WOW. There are so many women who go to gyms to get rid of their excess fat and this woman- well, she's happy and still alive because of it. This picture shows a very laid back woman on a couch with a bandage in her side as she talks about her experience with a stray bullet and her life-saving love handles.

WEEK SIX, DAY 4: HOW DOES BICYCLE TASTE?

There are some things I may never understand but when I saw this picture I was so shocked. It made me wonder how this Asian man pierced his mouth with a bicycle. All I know was that he's a Chinese devotee, he did this during a Vegetarian Festival and bicycle isn't a vegetable no matter if it's as red as chillies.

WEEK SIX, DAY 3: BEYOND THE SEA OF RED

This picture reminded me of another picture that was taken in The Bahamas except this picture has a lot more depth to it. The photographer who took this picture obviously knew what he/she wanted to show to his/her audience.
This picture has a very wide depth of field.
First there's the man with the mike speaking with a paper in his hand- emphasis is on the paper by the way he holds it.
Then the picture shows a sea of people listening to this man and the angle of the picture makes the audience gives the viewer a better idea of just how many people were there watching- obviously alot.
Lastly, at the way back there are lines of trees and greenery with buildings and other bystanders watching in the distance- it's like he wants to reach out to the people beyond his supporters.

WEEK SIX, DAY 2: NO MUSHY PEAS FOR ME.

This picture makes me wonder what this woman thought or said to the cameraman who took this picture. It was taken in The Bahamas. It also shows that aging people don't only eat mushy peas and that they are no different than any other human except maybe a bit more wiser and older. This food looks so good it makes me want to dig in as well.

WEEK SIX, DAY 1: FOCUSING ON THE FISH

It's obvious that the focus of this picture is the Lion Fish in this man's hands since everything else around the fish is practically blurred. This was probably done because the man was doing a demonstration and the Lion Fish was the subject. Therefore, the Lion Fish needed to be more emphasized than the man- thus the fish is sharper than the man.

WEEK FIVE, DAY 5: Division of the masses

It all came down to the wire today when the votes were in and had been counted. It was found that the FNM had beat the PLP by one vote and so, there was a recount. In this picture, there are so many PLP supporters with their yellow shirts. There is a unity about them that isn't seen with the FNM and it makes me wonder, even though I can't vote because I'm not a part of the Elizabeth Constituency, if the PLP is the best party.

The olympics have finally begun! The curve and slant of this picture gives the observer a true feel of how fast this speedskater is going. It is obvious that the focus of this picture is the skater as his surroundings and even his hand is blurred.

WEEK FIVE, DAY 3: SELF-INFLICTED VIOLENCE

I am a Bahamian citizen that continues to be amazed at what Photojornalism really does. As I look at this picture I struggle to understand the meaning of the self inflicted violence I see, but then I realize that there are some things that aren’t meant to be understood but appreciated. I appreciate photojournalism because it allows me to appreciate things I’ve never seen before and also appreciate the kind of life and peaceful environment I live in.

Everything about this shot is just so natural. The lighting, the depth and the colors that merge from light to dark is brilliant. The lonely Afghan woman is the subject of this photo however, what truly captures me as a viewer is the woman’s surroundings.

I never knew that one of the Jonas brothers- famous american musicians, had become the ambassador of Atlantis Kids Adventure. Photojournalism really is a very powerful tool. I look at this picture and to tell the truth, I see young black girls with plastered smiles dressed in Junkanoo wear while a young boy tries to lead them with his cowbells. It makes me wonder sometimes if we, Bahamians that is, are somehow selling ourselves into slavery again.
